General AI assistant by OpenAI

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is an LLM-based conversational AI handling reasoning and code.

Our take

ChatGPT is the AI assistant that started the generative AI boom in late 2022, and it is still the most-used AI tool in the world in 2026. The free tier is genuinely useful (GPT-4o mini is fast and capable), and the Plus tier ($20/month) adds GPT-5, image generation, voice mode, and the Advanced Data Analysis features. We use it daily for brainstorming, drafting, and quick research.

Our verdict

Pick ChatGPT if: ChatGPT is the right pick if you want one tool that does everything pretty well. The plugin ecosystem, image generation, and voice mode are the best in the category, and the $20/month price is fair for what you get. The only reason to pick something else is if you specifically need Claude writing quality or Gemini multimodal capabilities.

Skip ChatGPT if: If you are publishing anything that needs to sound like a specific human voice (a blog, a brand, a book), Claude produces noticeably more natural writing. If you do most of your work with video or audio input, Gemini is the better multimodal choice.
